Lakeview Village Development Set to Revitalize Mississauga’s Waterfront
Mississauga City Council recently approved an agreement that
advances the construction of Lakeview Village, a new development on Mississauga’s
former industrial waterfront. This project was originally zoned for 8,050 units,
but in late 2023, an enhanced Ministerial Zoning Order was issued which
increased the number of units to 16,000.
In April 2024, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing
issued an order requiring the City and Lakeview Community Partners Limited
(LCPL) to enter into agreements that address matters including community
benefits and affordable housing. The City and LCPL have been working closely
with the Office of the Provincial Land and Development Facilitator to ensure
the increased number of homes will be built in an appropriate way.
One of the key components of the enhanced development is
a joint commitment to prioritize the reconstruction of the Lakeview Pier to ensure
its timely advancement as both an accessible public space and an iconic
Canadian landmark.
Aird & Berlis, led by Patrick J. Harrington, represented
LCPL throughout the Lakeview Village project, including site acquisition,
development applications, advocacy, approvals and now implementation. The
project is one of the largest and most unique new growth developments in all of
the GTA.
