In addition to supporting various academic awards, Aird & Berlis is an enthusiastic supporter of law school life and the law student community. We are a long-standing sponsor of orientation week at the various Ontario law schools. We support events at the law schools, such as the Queen’s Annual Hockey Tournament and Windsor Law’s annual performance of Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues.
We also sponsor student run organizations, including the Black Law Students Association at Osgoode.
Since 2007, we have been partnering with the Women’s Law Association of Ontario (WLAO) on the WLAO/Aird & Berlis LLP Equality Award. This monetary award, funded by the firm and awarded on an annual basis, recognizes a female law student for her commitment to advancing equality rights.
We provide financial and other support for important women’s initiatives at the law schools, including the Osgoode Hall Women’s Network and the University of Toronto’s Women’s Law Association. We are a proud sponsor of Start Proud’s annual Out on Bay Street conference.

Read moreCloseLawyers and students at Aird & Berlis LLP don’t spend all their time in the office! Outside of work, we are committed to involvement in our community at a grassroots level and beyond.
Our students are dynamic fundraisers and volunteers. They regularly take part in a variety of initiatives, including: the Canadian Blood Services Law Challenge Blood Drive; the Toronto Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program, which has provided hot, healthy meals to Toronto residents in need since 1998; the Winter Hope Clothing Drive for the Yonge Street Mission; the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Big Bike event; the Movember Foundation moustache campaign to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues; and the Daily Bread Food Bank Food Drive. In the past, they have also participated in the Bay Street Hoops charity basketball tournament and Bowl For Kids' Sake benefiting Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto.
Aird & Berlis LLP is also an enthusiastic and longstanding supporter of the United Way of Greater Toronto. In addition to making individual donations, members of the firm organize various fundraising activities and events within the firm. We also support various organizations which are under the United Way umbrella.
Last but not least, Aird & Berlis LLP has a history of proudly sponsoring Canadian athletes, including Denis Shapovalov, a rising tennis sensation, and Olympians Damian Warner, decathlete and bronze medallist at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio; heptathlete and Pan Am gold medallist Jessica Zelinka at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing; and Clara Hughes, speed skater and gold and silver medallist at the 2006 Winter Games in Torino.
Outside of the firm-sponsored events, our lawyers are involved in various volunteer activities, including providing assistance to members of the community through pro bono work and serving as board members for hospitals, educational institutions, charitable foundations and other social organizations.
