Nico is a commercial real estate lawyer who thrives in the fast-paced world of real estate transactions. He provides his clients with expert legal guidance and strategic solutions that meet their business objectives. Nico’s responsiveness and meticulous attention to detail ensure that every transaction is handled with care and precision. He consistently delivers practical and effective results, whether navigating complex acquisitions, dispositions, financing arrangements or development projects.

Nico is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Group. He advises clients on every stage of the development process for their commercial real estate projects, and has played a key role in major real estate transactions across Canada. His experience spans large-scale retail, healthcare and residential developments, acquisitions and dispositions, as well as joint ventures. In addition, Nico has extensive expertise in commercial debt financing and refinancing, representing both lenders and borrowers. His work extends to a broad range of properties, from commercial and industrial to mixed-use and multi-family developments. Nico acts for a diverse range of clients, including developers, REITs, landlords, tenants, investors, government bodies and non-profit organizations.

Representative Matters

Represented a commercial real estate investment company in its joint venture agreement with another commercial real estate investment company to acquire an industrial portfolio of 21 properties from a third-party seller for approximately $228M.

Represented a commercial real estate investment company in its acquisition of a 50% interest in a joint venture partner’s industrial portfolio of 22 properties for approximately $113.5M.

Represented a government body in its acquisition of a commercial property and healthcare building for approximately $38.5M.

Represented a non-profit housing society in its acquisition of a portfolio of apartment buildings (295 units) for approximately $29.7M.

Represented a developer in obtaining a second mortgage loan on an industrial property with multiple buildings for approximately $20 million.

Represented a retirement home developer and operator in its completion of numerous financings/refinancings, including but not limited to:

a. a CMHC refinancing of a retirement home development for approximately $91 million;

b. establishing a multiple credit facility loan for a retirement home development for approximately $36 million;

c. establishing a multiple credit facility loan for a retail plaza and residual lands development for approximately $30 million.

Represented a printing and manufacturing company in its completion of simultaneous financings involving:

a. a term loan from a lender to refinance its equipment and real estate for approximately $23 million; and

b. establishing multiple credit facilities with another lender in the amount of approximately $25 million to support the operation of the business.
