Matthew excels at getting to the heart of complex cases. He draws on a depth of legal knowledge to find practical solutions to his clients’ disputes. 

Matthew is a member of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group. He maintains a general litigation practice and has experience representing a range of private and public sector clients, including corporations, municipalities and Indigenous governments. He has appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Divisional Court and the Superior Court of Justice.

Matthew graduated as gold medallist from Western Law, and he summered and articled at Aird & Berlis. After completing his articles, Matthew clerked for Justice Pepall, Justice Lauwers and Justice Miller of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Representative Matters

Represented Métis Nation of Alberta and Métis Nation of Ontario as interveners before the Supreme Court of Canada in Saskatchewan (Environment) v. Métis Nation-Saskatchewan, 2025 SCC 4, which affirmed that courts should be cautious in applying abuse of process to block Aboriginal rights litigation.

Represented the Township of Oro-Medonte before the Court of Appeal, which upheld a bylaw imposing connection fees for a local water system.
