Ethan is a citizen of the Métis Nation and was born and raised in Saskatchewan. He is currently based in Calgary and works with Indigenous governments and communities in implementing their visions for self-determination. As an Indigenous lawyer, he provides his clients with reliable and strategic legal advice with respect to the intersection of Indigenous, Aboriginal and corporate law. Ethan is committed to building strong relationships with his clients and helping them navigate complex and challenging legal issues.

Ethan is a member of the firm’s Indigenous Practice Group. He is also a member of the firm’s Corporate/Commercial and Mergers & Acquisitions Groups. His practice focuses on advising Indigenous communities, governments and nations on the exercise of their inherent jurisdiction and rights, the implementation of modern-day treaties and self-government agreements and economic reconciliation through meaningful consultation, accommodation and respect for Indigenous lands and rights. He is a part of ongoing self-government and treaty negotiations tables and works alongside his Indigenous clients to build their internal governance structures and institutions, as well as address their economic and infrastructure needs.

Ethan also maintains a broad corporate law practice and has valuable experience with a range of corporate law matters, including mergers and acquisitions and strategic reorganizations of private companies. He advises on corporate financing transactions, such as private placement of securities and convertible debt financings, and corporate governance initiatives, including unanimous shareholder agreements, equity incentive plans and succession planning.
