Ethan specializes in the intersection of Indigenous, Aboriginal and corporate law, providing strategic legal counsel to Indigenous governments, communities and businesses. As a trusted advisor, he is dedicated to supporting his clients’ visions for self-governance, self-determination and economic reconciliation.

Ethan is a member of the firm’s Indigenous Practice, Corporate/Commercial and Mergers & Acquisitions Groups. His practice focuses on advising Indigenous communities, governments and nations on the exercise of their inherent jurisdiction and rights, the implementation of modern-day treaties and self-government agreements, and economic reconciliation through meaningful consultation, accommodation and respect for Indigenous lands and rights. Ethan is a part of ongoing self-government, treaty and fiscal negotiations tables and works alongside his Indigenous clients to build their internal governance structures and institutions, as well as address their economic and infrastructural needs.

Ethan also maintains a broad corporate law practice and has valuable experience with a range of business transactions. He advises private companies and non-profits on corporate governance, equity and debt financing, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic reorganizations. His experience enables him to navigate complex corporate matters while tailoring solutions to meet his clients’ unique needs.

Prior to joining Aird & Berlis, Ethan articled and practised in corporate and capital markets law at a national firm. Ethan is a citizen of the Métis Nation and is based in Calgary.
