Aird & Berlis Welcomes New Partner Brendan O'Callaghan
Aird & Berlis is pleased to announce that Brendan O'Callaghan has joined the firm as a partner and member of our Municipal and Land Use Planning Group and Expropriation Law Group.
Brendan is a passionate advocate with more than three decades of land use planning and expropriation law experience. He has represented clients on numerous high-profile, complex land use planning and expropriation hearings before the Ontario Land Tribunal (formerly the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal), and has developed a sub-specialty in land valuation litigation, which is rare amongst Ontario lawyers. He is a highly-regarded member of the Municipal Bar and a frequent writer and speaker on municipal law issues.
Brendan advises on complex expropriation and land use planning litigation. His clients have included all levels of government, utilities, transit authorities and other entities with the power to expropriate lands as well as landowners impacted by expropriations.
Prior to joining Aird & Berlis, Brendan spent 30 years working in the public sector at the former City of Scarborough, the Town of Markham and the City of Toronto. He has acted as lead counsel on a diverse range of matters, including voter parity issues related to municipal ward boundaries, the protection of the Oak Ridges Moraine, the creation of large urban parks and the development of air rights over the rail corridor.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Brendan to the firm.
