Aird & Berlis Welcomes Seven New Partners

Aird & Berlis is pleased to announce that Monica Carinci, Ryan Cohen, Matthew Helfand, Meredith McCann, Ian McLeod, Lawrence Veregin and Jonathan Yantzi have become partners of the firm.
Monica Carinci is a member of the firm’s Tax Group. Her practice is focused on tax litigation and dispute resolution with the Canada Revenue Agency and the Department of Justice. She advises clients on disputes relating to income tax, GST/HST and other provincial taxes.
Ryan Cohen is a member of the firm’s Capital Markets Group. His practice focuses on corporate finance, securities law, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters. He also advises on compliance matters, including corporate governance requirements and continuous disclosure obligations. He works with public and private companies across a variety of sectors, including technology, real estate, mining and cannabis.
Matthew Helfand is a member of the firm’s Municipal & Land Use Planning Group. He provides strategic and practical advice to clients on a wide range of land development, planning and municipal law matters. He regularly represents developers, landowners and municipalities on various issues, including expropriations, development charges, residential tenancies and land use planning. He has an impressive track record of securing zoning approvals for various development projects, including transit-oriented communities and high-density mixed-use redevelopments.
Meredith McCann is a member of the firm’s Capital Markets Group. Her practice focuses on corporate finance, securities law, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate and commercial matters. She also has experience assisting clients in meeting continuous disclosure requirements and corporate governance matters.
Ian McLeod is a member of the firm's Corporate/Commercial Group. Drawing on his prior experience as an entrepreneur, Ian approaches corporate and commercial matters from a business-minded perspective. He advises on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings and regulatory matters for private and public companies.
Lawrence Veregin is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. He is a registered Canadian trademark agent. His practice focuses on copyright law, including copyright enforcement of movies and stock photos. Lawrence also works on patent matters related to technology.
Jonathan Yantzi is a member of the firm’s Financial Services Group. He specializes in secured lending transactions, including structuring cash-flow and asset-based loans, and negotiating creditor arrangements. Jonathan also has expertise in equipment finance and helps arrange bulk lease financing and private securitizations. Through his restructuring and insolvency practice, he assists creditors and distressed businesses and has experience with stakeholder and court-officer mandates in CCAA proceedings, BIA proposals and receiverships.
