CPD for Lawyers: 1 Substantive Hour

REGISTER

In November 2024, Ontario introduced significant amendments to the Construction Act (the "Act") through the Building Ontario for You Act (Bill 216). These changes aim to assist the construction industry by improving payment processes and access to adjudication, as well as bringing clarity to the Act itself.

While the changes are not yet in effect, getting a head start on understanding the rights and responsibilities under the updated Act is crucial for all industry participants to ensure compliance and prevent potential pitfalls in their construction contracts.

Join members of the Construction Group as they explore these critical amendments and break down their immediate impact on various stakeholders within Ontario’s construction industry, including owners, contractors, subcontractors and decision-makers.

Topics include:

  • Holdback requirements (including mandatory annual holdback release) and lien provisions
  • Invoicing and prompt payment
  • Interim adjudication
  • Transitional provisions and housekeeping amendments
