Thomson Reuters launches "Thomson Reuters Labs," a data and innovation lab in the Waterloo Region
On October 13, 2015, Thomson Reuters officially launched Thomson Reuters Labs, a data and innovation lab in Waterloo. The Lab will have a presence at Communitech, an industry-led innovation centre of nearly 1,000 tech companies, and will partner with the University of Waterloo.
Thomson Reuters (TSE:TRI) is a multinational mass media and information firm founded in Toronto. It is a leading source of information for businesses and professionals, combining industry expertise with innovative technology to deliver information to decision makers in the legal, financial, tax, accounting, intellectual property, science and media industries.
According to Thomson Reuters, the Thomson Reuters Lab will have two primary objectives: innovation and partnership. The former will be facilitated through applied research and experimentation on Thomson Reuters' vast and unique data sets, helping to produce solutions for Thomson Reuters customers. The latter will be facilitated by allowing students and startups to collaborate with academics, entrepreneurs, and other students and startups from the Waterloo Region's dynamic startup community.
The launch took place during Techtoberfest, an annual event for startups and investors hosted by Communitech in the Waterloo Region.
