Canadian Startups Top 43North Startup Competition
Canadian startups continue to make strides in the international startup market. Recently, three Ontario-based companies - CleanSlate and Qoints (Toronto) and Plum.io (Waterloo) - finished in the top 11 finalists category out of more than 11,000 international applicants in the 43North startup competition.
43North is a New York state-funded competition which is designed to reward startups with great potential while generating new economic opportunities in Western New York. In addition to cash prizes, the finalists receive mentorship opportunities in local incubators, and an incentive to relocate to New York.
CleanSlate produces a system to sanitize electronic devices using UV light in 30 seconds, mainly used in the medical-facility context, and was one of six companies to win $500,000. Qoints, which helps marketers compare data, and Plum.io, a cloud-based hiring tool, each earned $250,000.
