Congratulations to the Honourable Hugh D. Segal on being appointed to the rank of Officer of the Order of Canada. This is a promotion within the Order for Mr. Segal, as he was first appointed as a Member in 2003. Mr. Segal, a Senior Strategic Advisor at Aird & Berlis LLP, was also appointed to the Order of Ontario earlier in December.
Established in 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Order of Canada is one of the country’s highest civilian honours. It recognizes people from all sectors of Canadian society for their outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. The Order of Ontario was established in 1986 and is the highest honour awarded by the province. It recognizes excellence and achievement in a wide range of artistic, public service, community, business and professional areas.
Mr. Segal has served in the public, private, academic and not-for-profit sectors for 40 years, including as a senator, as a chief of staff to a prime minister and as an associate cabinet secretary for federal-provincial relations. He is recognized for his commitment to public service and for affecting public policy through is roles within government and academia.
