There is an internet scam that is has been brought to our attention recently that targets companies who own domain names. The usual modus operandi for this scam is as follows.

What appears to be a legitimate domain name registry in China sends an email to a company regarding their domain name. This email claims that an infringer has attempted to register companydomain.cn (and various other Chinese or other new company-specific domains) and if the company wants, they can prevent this infringing registration by dealing with them. Many of our clients often take these emails seriously, and ask us for legal advice on what they should do.
